A patient in a modern day mental institution believes that he is the man who assassinated Tsar Alexander in 1881 and Tsar Nicolas II in 1918. He and his doctor soon slip out of reality and are forced to relive the events of 1918 in order to break the spell.

Painter Ludmila Kusakova said that for the shooting had to restore the house of merchant Ipatiev, who was completely destroyed. She tried to find at least some information about the house, in the city museum, talking with the old-timers. Accidentally it was found out that in the local housing office there were copies of floor plans of the house, and they were subsequently built in the pavilions of the interiors. One of the stairs had to be turned 90 degrees, because it did not fit in the pavilion.
