Requirements: 30Gb on hard disk and 6GB of free RAM (8GB recommended).
One non-container DB "orcl" (non-CDB) was created!
The DBMS installed all the latest patches.
1) The file system used is Ext4
2) The latest version of VMWare Tools is installed in the virtual machine
3) Only the minimum set of packages required to run Oracle Database is installed
4) Linux kernel is installed from Oracle (Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 4). VMWare Tools are rebuilt for this core!
5) Updated yum-repository update via and installed all updates on the OS to 01/03/2018
6) The gcc compiler and source code for the kernel headers needed for VMWare Tools reconfiguration are also installed in the VM.
The virtual machine has five disks:
the first system - a volume of 40Gb (file system.vmdk);
The second for the swap file, the volume of 20Gb (file swap.vmdk);
the third for temporary files, 16Gb in size (temp.vmdk file) - inside the VM it is mounted in the / tmp directory;
the fourth - to install the application software (volume 60Gb - file u01.vmdk), - mounted in / u01;
fifth disc is intended for Oracle database data files (up 200Gb - oradata.vmdk file) - mounted nosuid in / oradata.
To increase the speed, the following "tuning" has been done:
- SCSI controller drives use a paravirtualized SCSI controller from VMWare (pvscsi);
- The type of network interfaces is also the most productive paravirtual NIC (vmxnet3);
- Paravirtualized drivers are installed in the VM;

1. The Oracle software files are located on the u01.vmdk (the mount point / u01 in the virtual machine)
2. The database files are located on the oradata.vmdk (mount point / oradata in the virtual machine)
3.All software (database instance, listener) will automatically start when the OS starts. When shutting down the OS, all the software also automatically stops.
4. All the software is installed under the user oracle - its environment is configured for Database Home.
